Just outside of Gardiner, MT you will find some of the most relaxing, natural, and mineral- filled hot springs in the area.
History Yellowstone Hot Springs is located on the Banks of the Yellowstone River, just outside of Gardiner, Montana. This is the same area which the old LaDuke Hot Springs and Resort was built on by Julius J. LaDuke in the 1890s.Travelers to Yellowstone National Park frequented the hot springs on their long journeys via train or coach. Over the decades, many entrepreneurs have capitalized on the natural hot springs found on the banks of the Yellowstone River. Many failed due to financial hardship when lodges and facilities burnt, or when personal hardship hit like that of LaDuke. LaDuke lost his first wife and two children in his adult life, and eventually sold his hot spring properties. In modern times, Yellowstone Hot Springs has established itself as the next venture in this long history by beginning construction of the current facilities in 2018. For a more extensive history on LaDuke Hot Springs, visit here. The Water & Its Benefits The water is brought up to Yellowstone Hot Spring's manmade pools through pipes and constantly flows through, meaning the water from the springs is constantly moving in and out of the pool, meaning its always fresh and clean. It is briefly cooled from approximately 150 degrees to ~110 degrees for the "hot" pool, ~98 degrees for the "warm" pool, and ~65 degrees for the "cold" pool. The water is densely concentrated with several beneficial minerals, such as silica, calcium, iron, magnesium, boron, lithium, and a little sulfur (not enough to cause a smell). If you know me, you know I have some serious skin and allergy issues. When I read that hot springs can help both, I couldn't wait to try it myself. The silica did wonders on my eczema-ridden skin by calming the irritation, soothing my dry skin, and leaving my skin soft to the touch. In addition, hot springs are said to have other health benefits including increased circulation, stress relief, and more. If nothing else, soaking in a natural hot spring surrounded by nature is definitely relaxing and recharging.
My Review The staff was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the hot springs that feed their pools and the history behind them.
The setting of Yellowstone Hot Springs is simply stunning. As you pull into the parking lot, you go "ehhhh, what is this place…" as you drive through a small RV park. But once you're inside, you're sitting in naturally heated, mineral filled pools that are built with river rock and other natural materials. And looking up, you realize you're in a valley with mountains rising all around you. In addition, the facilities are beautifully landscaped, well-maintained, and very clean. Yellowstone Hot Springs is conveniently located right off the main interstate from Bozeman to Yellowstone National Park. They have towel rentals, which is great if you're living out of a suitcase like we were. They also have showers, bathrooms, snacks available for purchase, and a small gift shop.
